Cost and Aid for International Students

Estimated cost information to attend UMass Boston can be found at the Bursar's Office page

  • International students are considered out-of-state students.
  • This total is based on full-time attendance, and includes both tuition and basic mandatory fees, as well as the Student Activities and Technology fees.
  • Depending on the college that admits you, additional mandatory fees may apply, as well.
  • All international students are required to pay the UMass Boston Health Insurance fee.
  • Other additional costs include room and board, books and supplies, and personal or living expenses.  These amounts will, of course, vary depending upon your personal choices and preferences and course selection. They are not included in Bursar's totals.

Cost and Aid for International Students

In general, aid is limited for international students. Federal and state grants are not available to international students. Merit Scholarships are not available to international students who are incoming first-years; however, a limited number may be available for continuing students, based on competitive academic performance and renewable annually.

Opportunities exists for international students for various personal loans, as well as some on-campus employment through our Student Employment Office. Check for more information at the International Undergraduates page of our Financial Aid Section.

International graduate students will find a general estimate of costs on the International Graduate Applicants page. Check the International Graduate Students page for more information about loan and teaching assistantship opportunities for international graduate students .
