Transfer Nursing Students

Each year, hundreds of students transfer to UMass Boston to pursue a degree in nursing or to advance their nursing careers with a bachelor’s degree. There are multiple pathways toward a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing at UMass Boston. Use this guide below to help you understand what program might be the best fit for you:

Traditional Nursing Program
  • No prior degree required
  • Students with prior bachelor’s welcome to apply
  • Minimum time to completion is 5 semesters (2 1/2 years)
  • On Campus
Accelerated Nursing Program
  • Bachelor's degree in non-nursing field
  • 12 months
  • Online asynchronous instruction
  • In-person Boston-area clinicals
RN-BS Program
  • Associate's degree in Nursing (ASN) or Hospital School Diploma
  • RN License*
  • Typically takes between 3-5 semesters to complete (select classes may be offered in the summer semester)
  • Online
  • Students starting in the spring semester can take classes on-campus at Cape Cod Community College

*Waived for candidates applying for fall 2020. RN license must be earned in order to progress to spring 2021 semester
